WHY HAVE ONE-TO-ONE TRAINING FOR YOUR PUPPY EVEN BEFORE VACCINATIONS?
The sooner you start having some professional help with your puppy the easier it will be to:
o Train all the basics and beyond within just the first few weeks.
o Learn more about your puppy’s behaviour
to ensure you have a well-balanced, happy puppy and adult dog.
o Have a puppy who is much more focused on
you when you do eventually go out in public.
o Allow your family to enjoy your puppy’s
arrival in a more relaxed and organised way.
o Build a great bond between you and your
puppy.
o Avoid common behavioural issues, such as
your puppy suffering from separation anxiety or lack of toilet training.
I have worked with many, many puppies now and have also successfully raised a puppy for a charity where she is now a fully qualified Assistance Dog. I have also fostered many other young dogs from the same charity and by kind and consistent training from the day of arrival I have seen the huge benefits of early training and behaviour.
Whilst private
training may appear more expensive than classes, it will be money very well
invested as you see your puppy grow into a happy, confident dog who is a
pleasure to be with at home and in public.
Many people are
led to believe that classes are necessary for socialisation but that is not the
case. I can advise you how best to
safely socialise and habituate your puppy even before vaccinations. This includes advice on how to build a
positive association with people, fully-vaccinated dogs, and the sights and
sounds of everyday life to help your puppy grow into a relaxed, confident adult
dog.
As soon as your
puppy is permitted to walk in public I can also introduce you to further
appropriate socialisation, which means, of course, interaction with other dogs
and people but also how to keep your dog far more interested in you.
Also, by training
before your puppy is fully vaccinated, the recall in public will be much better
than usual once you are able to go out. I
like to work on allowing puppies off lead in a safe public area as soon as safely
possible, and with a good voice and whistle recall taught at a very early age. This is often delayed when owners wait until
classes – especially if you cannot get into classes quickly.
I have also
worked with a lot of owners, especially first-time puppy parents, to give advice
prior to your puppy (or older rescue dog) arriving to ensure the most
beneficial start.
Here’s a few
more reasons why early private training is a good thing:
· I fit in with your household’s time
restraints so all your family can be involved.
· No standing around waiting for your turn
in class.
· Practical training and behavioural help
wherever you need it - in your home, garden and, after full vaccinations, in outdoor
locations of your choice.
· Faster training and behavioural progress.
· More relaxing than classes for
you and your dogs.
· More time-effective than classes as
you learn more quickly.
· If you do go to classes as well, you
will have had an excellent head-start.
· I am also happy to work with you if you
go to classes - I am often asked by owners for extra help on a one-to-one basis
– often for improved recall, lead walking and behavioural issues. This works well as we train in the areas
where you most need practical training advice.
